• Cloud Computing Resources for the Western Australian Public Sector

    Cloud computing offers potential benefits including cost savings and improved business outcomes for Western Australian government agencies. However, there are a variety of risks that need to be carefully considered.

    The resources listed in here will assist agencies to perform a risk assessment and make an informed decision as to whether cloud computing is currently suitable to meet their business goals with an acceptable level of risk.

    The Department is also considering options for the adoption of Cloud based solutions and is deveoping support materials to assist agencies when considering the cloud. In the interim, further assistance can be obtained by emailing the GCIO Policy team.

    1. The Commonwealth Department of Finance and Deregulation, through the Australian Government Information Management Office, has released the following documents which provide strategic direction and guidance to Commonwealth agencies.  They are also of use to State and Territory jurisdictions.  Go to http://www.finance.gov.au/agict/.

        Note that this paper references and discusses the Information Privacy Principles set out in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).  Western Australian agencies are not bound by this legislation, however as good practice the guidance provided by this paper is worthy of consideration.

    3. Australasian Digital Recordkeeping Initiative – Advice on managing the recordkeeping risks associated with cloud computing.  Go to http://www.adri.gov.au.

    4. Recordkeeping - the Western Australian State Records Office has released a standard and associated guidelines for management of digital records which describe requirements that must be satisfied in Recordkeeping Plans for State organizations to demonstrate good practice digital recordkeeping. These requirements apply to records wherever they are held.
