    When do I need to create a Website Business Plan?

    You will need to create a Website Business Plan when you are considering or planning for a new website or the redevelopment of an existing website. It is important that agencies fully consider all issues relevant to the development and management of websites before they start building the website. The Website Business Plan must be reviewed and approved before the development of a new website or the major redevelopment of an existing website. A copy of the approved Website Business Plan is to be submitted to the Public Sector Commission.

    I don't have a Website Business Plan for my existing website. Do I need to create one?

    Yes, you will need to create a Website Business Plan for each of your public facing websites. You should aim to do this as soon as possible as the intension of the Website Business Plan is to assist agencies ensure their website is aligned to agency objectives and goals, and contains website measures to ensure those objectives are being achieved. The Website Business Plan clearly outlines the ownership, business need, objectives and key performance indicators of the website for the purposes of ongoing management and effective website analysis. It also ensures that the new website adheres to the policies and standards identified in the Framework. Please submit a copy of the approved Website Business Plan to the Public Sector Commission.

    We only just redeveloped our website. Is a Website Business Plan still required for our website?

    Yes, you will need to create a Website Business Plan for each of your public facing websites. The Website Business Plan will help you to develop specific website measures to ensure your website objectives are being achieved. Regular reviews of the website against these measures will help identify changes required to enhance returns, modification to adapt to emerging customer and technology needs, modification to budgets, etc.

    We are already part way into re-design of our website. Do we need to provide a Website Business Plan at this stage of development?

    Not at this stage. However you should write up a plan for the maintenance phase, focusing on the key business objectives and the Key Performance Indicators for the website. It is important to identify what measures will be used to determine if the website is meeting the objectives and the needs of the target audiences. The governance structure and budget for the maintenance phase should also be identified.

    When the website goes through its next redevelopment phase, a business plan will need to be created.

    Do we require a Website Business Plan for all our agency websites?

    Yes, Website Business Plans are required for each of your public facing websites.

    Do I need to provide a Website Business Plan for a Federal Government website that is partly funded by the Federal Government but is hosted under the wa.gov.au domain?

    A Website Business Plan is not required for a Federal Government website unless you become the 'owner' of the website.
