• GP Out and About

Government Procurement (GP) staff recently participated in the Department of Education’s South West Forum for school Business Managers in Busselton.

Executive Director Rod Alderton, with Assistant Directors Kate Ingham and Lara Connor, headed down the highway to explain how GP can help schools; from assistance with specific school related purchasing activities to how to get the best value from Common Use Arrangements (CUAs).

A joint presentation between Lara and Kate highlighted CUAs commonly used by schools, their benefits and some CUA myths.

Lara highlighted that when using CUAs, the risk is removed as the State Supply Commission policies are adhered to. She noted the Purchasing Card CUA has a mandatory schools component and reiterated the advantages of using this contract.

“The forum was great for the Business Managers to discuss with us the CUAs they use and give feedback on them,” Lara said.

Kate explained the role of GP in providing support for agencies and introduced the Innovative Solution for School Playgrounds contract, which was well received.

Attending the seminar provided an opportunity to gain a more in-depth understanding of the needs of a key client and also gave Kate and Lara the opportunity to provide procurement advice face-to-face.

“Being on site enabled us to listen directly to our clients’ needs. As stakeholder relationships are important to GP, this helped us get first hand feedback,” said Kate.

“Our involvement in this forum shows our on-going commitment to meet the needs of agencies and be accountable for the arrangements we put in place.”

Since Busselton, GP has visited Esperance and future presentations will be held at other regional workshops including a session in Northam shortly.

Geoff Brown from Building Management and Works (BMW) also presented at the forum, dealing with works procurement. As part of the Department of Finance’s collaborative approach, BMW will be presenting in Albany, Karratha and Kalgoorlie on GP’s behalf.
