Department of Finance

Finance leads the nation in graduate employment

The Department of Finance WA has been named Australia’s number one graduate employer by graduates themselves in the Australian Association of Graduate Employers (AAGE) Top 75 list.

AAGE, the peak industry body for the graduate recruitment and development market, ranks organisations Australia wide using feedback from graduates that have spent the previous 12 months working with the organisation.

Over 2,500 graduates were anonymously surveyed throughout December 2018 and January 2019 and asked to rate their employer on a variety of categories including:

  • Orientation or induction program
  • Training and development program
  • Quality of work
  • Career progression
  • Supervisor or manager
  • Compensation and benefits
  • Work/life balance
  • Company culture

The Department of Finance leads the way by ensuring graduates get an insight into the diverse services that the Department delivers and have opportunities to liaise with a wide variety of stakeholders. Graduates also shadow the Director General and senior staff, work on projects that impact the entire WA Public Sector and work collaboratively with other government agencies.

A key component to the Finance’s success is the focus on relationships and support provided to graduates. Graduates are supported by management, supervisors, co-workers and the graduate alumni to better transition them from study to a professional working environment.

Finance also has a focus on recruiting graduates based on their values and consider students with any university degree.

Majority of Finance graduates continue on to full time roles within Finance or the public sector with 100% of 2018 graduates securing roles within the Department.

Applications for Finance’s 2020 graduate program will open from 28 February 2019 with up to seven graduate positions available.
