Getting Started
A few basics before getting started with your purchase:
What do you need, when do you need it by, and how much will it cost?
Before making the decision to buy, consider not buying at all. Is the purchase absolutely necessary? If it is, consider buying less, to a lower specification.
Do you have approval to spend and is there a budget?
Ensure you have gone through your agency's approvals process before you start.
Is the products or service available on an agency specific contract or a CUA?
Speak to the procurement practitioner in your agency to find out about any agency specific contracts.
When paying, can you use a purchasing card or do you need a purchase order?
Purchasing cards are an easy to use payment option. Be sure to check your agency's limits and whether your chosen supplier accepts this as a form of payment.
Is your purchase over $20,000?
If your purchase is not on a CUA and the total contract value is over $20,000 (incl. GST), don't forget to engage your Government Procurement representative.
