Help me go solar

There are a number of schemes for WA households to help with the cost of switching to renewable energy systems to generate electricity or to heat water. If you apply for one scheme, you will still be eligible for others.

Solar hot water subsidy

The WA Government ‘s Solar Water Heater Subsidy Scheme helps residents with the cost of installing gas-boosted (natural gas or LPG) solar water heaters.

Selling solar electricity

Under WA’s Renewable Energy Buyback Scheme (REBS), owners of renewable energy systems can receive payments from Synergy or Horizon Power for electricity exported to the grid.

Retailers set their own REBS rates. These can change over time as they are based on the value of electricity in the areas each retailer services. Check with your retailer for its current rate.

National incentives

Residents are entitled to Small-scale Technology Certificates when installing renewable energy systems. Residents can sell certificates or (more commonly) exchange them for an up-front discount on a system’s purchase price. Solar credits can increase the number of certificates you receive.
