Land use planning and regional development
Access to land is another key consideration. Renewable energy projects typically need large amounts of land located away from populated areas.
The state government and local government authorities both play an important role in the planning approval process for infrastructure projects. WA’s regional development commissions can support developments in regional areas.
- Shared Land Information Platform (SLIP) – a detailed database by Landgate, which includes location information on land title and zoning, and local government authority boundaries
- WA Atlas – a free interactive tool to search, view and layer the datasets in SLIP. Users can also access or download most data to use in their own GIS software
- Maps of regional development areas – WA’s Department of Regional Development and Lands provides maps showing the service areas of the regional development commissions, and the boundaries of local government authorities
