Works reform

Our Works Reform Journey

Over the past three years, Building Management and Works has implemented a program of change initiatives called “Works Reform”. Significant achievements have included:

  • the updated Strategic Asset Management (SAM) framework
  • development of guidelines for the preparation of Business Cases and Strategic Asset Plans
  • implementation of direct appropriation of funds for capital works projects
  • use of non-traditional procurement methodologies for a range of projects
  • the incorporation of whole-of-life maintenance thinking into planning for new buildings
  • the introduction of annual maintenance plans
  • the completion of Phase One of the Master Planning approach
  • establishment of a one-stop-shop in the regions
  • an increased role of the regions in new building projects
  • the development of a Project Management Framework.

The creation of the Department of Finance on 1 July 2011 provided an opportunity to reassess the strategic priorities of BMW. Works Reform as a formal change program is being transitioned. BMW is now moving to implement continuous business improvement.
