On 16 March 2009, Cabinet approved a plan to merge the State Supply Commission (SSC) with the Department of Treasury and Finance (now Department of Finance) - as part of the Government's drive to increase the efficiency of the public sector.
All SSC staff and resources have been transferred to Department of Finance and until such time as the State Supply Commission Act 1991 is formally repealed through parliament, Accountable Authorities will be required to continue to purchase goods and services in accordance with SSC supply policies and comply with the requirements of their partial exemption.
Department of Finance provides administrative support to the SSC. All SSC enquiries, complaints and communications are co-ordinated by Department of Finance's Government Procurement (GP) business unit.
The policies were reviewed with a focus on assisting agencies to build greater procurement independence.
